How much the B1 Polish exam costs and where to take it

As of 25 October 2026

For the state exam in Polish at B1 level for adults, an exam centre can charge at most the equivalent of EUR 150. This limit is set by law. You pay separately for the certificate: according to the Państwowa Komisja (State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language), it costs the equivalent of EUR 20, and centres charge this amount separately. You take the exam at one of the centres on the list published on certyfikatpolski.pl before each session. From 1 January 2027, the fee rules will change.

The maximum fee under the law

Each exam centre sets its own price, but it cannot be higher than the limit in art. 11g of the ustawa o języku polskim (Polish Language Act). The limit is given in euros, and you pay the equivalent in the currency of the country where the exam takes place. In Poland, you pay in złoty.

Level and groupMaximum exam fee (until the end of 2026)
A1, A2, B1, B2 - children and teenagersEUR 90
A1, A2 - adultsEUR 120
B1, B2 - adultsEUR 150
C1, C2 - adultsEUR 180

Each centre states on its website which exchange rate it uses to convert euros into złoty. For example, Uczelnia Łazarskiego (Lazarski University) uses the rate from 30 September 2026 for the 5-6 December 2026 session. That is why the amount in złoty may differ slightly between centres and sessions.

What centres charge - examples

At the four centres whose websites we checked before the 5-6 December 2026 session, the B1 fee is equal to the limit, and you pay an extra EUR 20 for the certificate.

What the fee covers

The law only sets the limit for the fee to take the exam - the EUR 150. The fee for issuing the certificate, the equivalent of EUR 20, is given by the State Commission on certyfikatpolski.pl, and centres charge it separately. Some charge it only after you pass, others in advance, with a refund if you do not pass.

Can you take the exam abroad?

Yes. Universities abroad that teach Polish philology, and schools abroad that have run Polish courses for at least 3 years, can also get the right to organise the exam. The fee limit is then the equivalent in the currency of the country where the exam takes place.

However, there are few such centres. The list for the 5-6 December 2026 session has 67 centres, and only one of them is outside Poland: KoKoPol in Görlitz, Germany.

How to find a centre and register

  1. Go to certyfikatpolski.pl and open the list of centres for the session you want. The list appears 2 months before the exam, and registration at the centres opens at the same time.
  2. Check the “Poziom” (Level) column. Not every centre runs B1 in every session.
  3. Use the registration link to go to the centre's website, and register by the deadline the centre sets.
  4. Pay into the centre's account, not the State Commission's. The payment deadline can be short: at Uniwersytet Łódzki, it is 1 day after you are told that you have a place in the exam.

B1 sessions for adults in 2027: 6-7 February, 10-11 April, 12-13 June, 2-3 October and 27-28 November. Before you pay, you can test yourself with a timed mock exam in the B1 bez stresu app.

What changes from 1 January 2027

On 1 January 2027, an amendment to the Polish Language Act comes into force (Dz.U. 2026 poz. 676 - Journal of Laws of 2026, item 676). Three changes matter for candidates.

You still pay the exam fee to the centre, and the centre passes 20% of this fee on to NAWA. The centre sets the amount within the limit, so check it on the centre's website before you pay.

Information as of 25 October 2026. Before you pay, confirm the current fee on the website of the centre you choose.
